Judicial Intern Opportunity Program will expand in 2006

"The success of the 2004-2005 Judicial Intern Opportunity Program exceeded our expectations," proclaimed Gail Howard, JIOP director in the ABA Section of Litigation. The full-time, six-week-minimum summer internships are open to first- or second-year minority or financially disadvantaged law students who want to conduct legal research and writing for state or federal judges in participating cities. Participating judges are from Illinois, Texas and Miami, and for the 2005-2006 program will also include Los Angeles and Phoenix.

According to Howard, with the expansion of the program, it is hoped that 140 students will be placed. Interns may receive a stipend of $1,500 for the summer or law school credit.

Members of the Section of Litigation and other volunteers screen and interview applicants for the program, which is organized and run by the sections of Litigation and of Intellectual Property Law.

More information on the program, including an application, are available here.
